Placet

I first found this in the restaurant ‘Taxidermista’ in Plaça Reial, Barcelona. (Lovely square by the way..) try the tapas bar opposite Taxidermista for lunch – peasant looking but you know – I fit in well.

Placet Rioja blanco

Bodegas Palacios Remondo is a famous Rioja house, and the 2005 Plácet is a white Rioja made from 100% Viura (Macabeo), the most widely planted white grape in the region. Gorgeous notes of white flowers, orange, apricot, and nuts leapt out of this pale gold wine, with a subtle hint of buttery oak behind it all. This was an extremely well balanced and elegant white. Rich, but with a lively acidity at the same time. Excellent now, with grilled chicken in a light honey/dijon glaze, this may have a few years of cellar time in it as well.

My thoughts: One of the nicest white wine (never mind Rioja) that I have ever tasted.

Not easily available in UK at the moment. Unless you know different.
